The thing is people will always ship something else. Some will love the canon, but some will see something you did not intend to be there.
You could write a gay or lesbian couple and you would still worry that the characters will be shipped with someone the reader believes they have better chemistry with. And that will happen, no surprise there. And that’s okay. Because that’s fandom.
